Haiti single at the top of the charts

Rod Stewart singing for the Haiti single

The charity single, Everybody Hurts, has reached the top of the charts and has sold more than 453,000 copies in its first week. The official UK charts company revealed that the single has gained the biggest first week sales of any charity track this century.

The song was performed by a number of stars including Leona Lewis, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Take That, Cheryl Cole, and it was organised by Simon Cowell. The money raised will be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and The Sun newspaper’s Helping Haiti campaign.

It is amazing to hear stories of how individual people, businesses, groups and charities have given to help Haiti and many lives will be changed as a result of everyone’s efforts.

What rocked and sucked in 2009?

Katie price, PM Gordon Brown and Tiger woods were all voted as the biggest suckers of 2009 whilst the iphone, facebook and DJ Sir Terry Wogan rocked the most.

The recent poll carried out by swiftcover.com found that eight out of ten people thought that Katie price sucked in 2009. Tiger Woods didn’t prove very popular either, especially amongst women as 78% of women said he sucked compared to just 57% of all men. In politics, 62% of people said that Gordon Brown sucked the most compared with 38% who voted for David Cameron.

Technology seemed to rock the most and with the iphone becoming increasingly popular it is no surprise that 68% said that it rocked, compared to 34% who said the blackberry. The poll also revealed that more people prefer to use facebook rather than twitter.

Are you heading to the slopes for half term?

With half term coming up many families will jet off to ski resorts for fun packed holidays, and with the excellent snow conditions it’s bound to be a popular activity for the mid term break.

The Telegraph reported that half a metre of fresh snow is expected to fall in many resorts, across France, Austria, Switzerland and almost a metre in some US resorts which will make room for great skiing.

If you are more of a thrill seeker looking for a winter sport other than skiing then you may like to have a go at ice karting, similar to go-karting but with studded tyres. Alternatively you could try snowboarding or how about snowlerblading? Click here to have a look at some more adventurous activities, but make sure your travel insurance is in order before setting off on your trip.

Toyota recall

Toyota’s recent recall of vehicles has raised concerns amongst Toyota drivers about whether it is safe to drive their cars, and some are uncertain if their car insurance would cover them in the event of an accident.

Toyota recalled six models of vehicles because of problems with the accelerator pedals. The models affected are the IQ, Aygo, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Avensis and Verso. The Times Online reported that the recall has cost Toyota $2billion which includes cars in Europe, China and the US. They also reported that drivers will have to wait another week before the new parts arrive in the UK, and repairs are only due to start on the 10th February.

More than 10 000 people in the UK have phoned Toyota with concerns, and to find out whether they should continue driving their cars. If you are concerned about your car and whether you will be covered if you have an accident, then it’s probably best to contact your insurance company to check.
