Multi-car insurance- does it really save you money?

You would think that a multi-car insurance policy would save you money but in actual fact it could be cheaper to buy individual policies, according to swiftcover.com. They put it to the test and compared the price of two popular cars on a multi policy with the cost of insuring them separately. They found that multi car policy users could be paying up to twice as much for their car insurance!

Over the past 30 years the number of households with more than one car has grown and in 2008, 32% of households had access to two or more cars, so it’s no surprise that multi-car insurance sounds appealing to many. But before you rush into buying your insurance, it’s a good idea to compare the prices of different policies first- you could save yourself a lot of money.

Five year old takes 4×4 for joyride

I have just read an article in the Telegraph about a five year old who took his family’s 4×4 on a joyride, which I’m sure was a day his family won’t forget. Just after 7am on Thursday morning the boy took the 4X4 and joined the morning rush hour traffic. A number of motorists called 999 after seeing him, barely tall enough to see out the windscreen. He drove the car ’slowly but erratically’ for four miles before crashing it into a wall, but he and other road users had a lucky escape with no serious injuries. A police spokesperson said:

The boy was crying afterwards because he was a bit shaken. But for a five-year-old he had actually driven quite well. It’s a bizarre case and we’re not taking action against anyone.

After reading this article I think it’s fair to say that you can never underestimate a five year old.

Are you heading to the slopes for half term?

With half term coming up many families will jet off to ski resorts for fun packed holidays, and with the excellent snow conditions it’s bound to be a popular activity for the mid term break.

The Telegraph reported that half a metre of fresh snow is expected to fall in many resorts, across France, Austria, Switzerland and almost a metre in some US resorts which will make room for great skiing.

If you are more of a thrill seeker looking for a winter sport other than skiing then you may like to have a go at ice karting, similar to go-karting but with studded tyres. Alternatively you could try snowboarding or how about snowlerblading? Click here to have a look at some more adventurous activities, but make sure your travel insurance is in order before setting off on your trip.

  • Do you need more free time?

Demanding workloads and longer commutes are eating away at our free time more than ever before, leaving the average Briton tired and stressed, and cutting the time they spend with their families, according to research by swiftcover.com, the UK’s only fully online car insurer.

swiftcover.com’s ‘Get a Life’ survey found that 46% of people say they have a lot less free time than they did three years ago, with almost half of those surveyed (49%) saying that their working day now stretches to between 9 and 11 hours including commuting time.

It isn’t just the employed that work long hours. According to an article in The Telegraph a mother’s working day is 15 hours long!

As a result people are trying to be more efficient with their time by carrying out some mundane chores on the internet. More people are doing their weekly food shopping, present buying and sale shopping online. According to an article on The BBC, books are sold on the internet more than any other product.

With the increased lack of time and the current credit crunch, now is a great time to get online and save some money. If you are currently looking for car insurance visit swiftcover.com, they are consistently voted as a cheap car insurer.
