Swiftcover wins ‘Best Digital Media Strategy’ award

swiftcover.com has received an award for ‘Best Digital Media Strategy’ at this year’s DADI awards, which celebrates digital success.

swiftcover.com ran a campaign on their ‘Get a life’ Facebook page over the summer months. The campaign encouraged music lovers to create the summer’s ‘hottest playlist’ by choosing their top favourite songs from a master playlist chosen by Absolute Radio DJs.

The playlist, with the most popular songs, was made available to download on Spotify, and those who voted for their favourite songs were entered into a draw to win Spotify accounts.

Brits develop a taste for adventurous holidays

Adventurous holidays are becoming more popular according to research done by swiftcover.com. They found that when it comes to extreme holidays 23% of people would go white-water rafting, 17% would like to drive a fast car around a race track and 16% would do a parachute jump. There is a definite shift in holiday habits, and while luxury holidays are still very popular, more people are choosing something more exotic and adventurous. However dream holidays such as these do come at a price. Some people choose to save for their dream holidays which could take years, some will pay on their credit cards and 4% of people say they would marry a rich man or women!

Roman Bryl, Travel Underwriting Manager for swiftcover.com, says:

If people are venturing farther afield they do need to make sure they have the right travel insurance that covers them for more exotic destinations beyond Europe and provides adequate cover for things like medical emergencies, which can be very expensive. Backpackers should consider insurance such as swiftcover.com’s Gap policy, which is specially designed for their needs.

    Festival Wellies

The festival season is underway and as everyone knows the weather is always unpredictable, so when packing for a festival it’s always important to remember to pack your wellies.

This summer your wellington boots will not only keep you dry but will also charge your mobile phone. A new kind of wellies have been created and will be able to charge your phone as you dance, they have a power generating sole that coverts heat from your feet into electrical current. Mobile phone company, Orange will launch the eco-friendly wellies at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset later this month. Charging a mobile phone is always difficult to do at festivals but this won’t have to be a worry anymore, and the new wellies will just give everyone a good excuse to dance more!

    The Stuck Man’s Marathon

On Sunday 23rd May thousands of runners gathered at the starting line, ready to run the 2010 Edinburgh Marathon. Many of the entrants ran for charity, raising millions for a number of good causes. Included in the crowd of more than 9000 runners, was the purple and orange stuck man, who took part in the race with a fantastic finish time of 3:49:09. The stuck man was promoting swiftcover.com’s recently launched iphone application called stuck. Stuck allows users to post twitter-style comments when they are stuck, whether they have a song stuck in their head, stuck in traffic or …stuck behind a slow person in a race. Other races on the day included the Scottish half marathon and the Hairy Haggis team relay. The crowd of spectators, the runners, and all the people organising the event made the day a great experience for everyone.

If you fancy entering the race next year then keep an eye out on the 1st September when entries will be open to the public.

Are you heading to the slopes for half term?

With half term coming up many families will jet off to ski resorts for fun packed holidays, and with the excellent snow conditions it’s bound to be a popular activity for the mid term break.

The Telegraph reported that half a metre of fresh snow is expected to fall in many resorts, across France, Austria, Switzerland and almost a metre in some US resorts which will make room for great skiing.

If you are more of a thrill seeker looking for a winter sport other than skiing then you may like to have a go at ice karting, similar to go-karting but with studded tyres. Alternatively you could try snowboarding or how about snowlerblading? Click here to have a look at some more adventurous activities, but make sure your travel insurance is in order before setting off on your trip.
